How it works
Special education runs in a circle, not a line.
ClearPath is built the same way. The evaluation, the IEP, daily data collection, service tracking, and progress reports live in one connected cycle — data entered once is used everywhere.
- ETR: The ETR determines the student’s needs.
- IEP: The IEP turns needs into a plan.
- Finalize: Finalizing the IEP builds the year.
- Teach: Daily teaching generates the evidence.
- Progress reports: Progress reports assemble themselves.
- Next IEP: The evidence flows into the next IEP.
ClearPath is the whole circle.
Step by step
-
Evaluation (ETR)
The ETR determines the student’s needs. In ClearPath it is written on Ohio’s own form, from a student record entered once — so what the evaluation finds is already in the record when the IEP team sits down.
-
IEP
The IEP turns needs into a plan: present levels, goals and objectives, and the services promised in Section 7 — on the state’s form, not our interpretation of it.
-
Finalize
Finalizing an IEP in ClearPath isn’t filing paperwork — it creates the year’s working structure. Goals become data collection. Services become compliance tracking. Objectives become the skeleton of the progress report. From that day forward, the documentation is a byproduct of the teaching, not a second job after it.
-
Teach
Daily teaching generates the evidence. Nine classroom data types, single and group sessions, and prompt tracking that scores independence honestly — the level of help a student needed is part of the data, so a prompted response and an independent one never show up as the same number. Service minutes are logged against what Section 7 promised.
-
Progress reports
Progress reports assemble themselves from the data you already took: charts by date, mastery you can defend. You refine the narrative instead of reconstructing the quarter. Then the evidence flows into the next IEP, and the circle closes.
The whole school team — intervention specialist, SLP, OT, para, administrator — works from one live picture; families see it through the updates and documents they receive; and the evidence flows into the next plan.
Most software handles one arc of that circle. ClearPath is the whole circle.
What’s inside the cycle
Everything below serves the same idea: the educator’s judgment does the deciding, and the software returns the time.
-
Student record
Entered once, it populates every state form. One record is the single source of truth for every document that follows.
-
Data collection
Nine classroom data types, single and group sessions, and prompt tracking that scores independence honestly. Mastery is measured against the goal’s own criterion — the one written in the IEP — not a number we picked.
-
Progress
Charts by date, mastery you can defend, and progress reports that assemble themselves from the data you already took.
-
Service delivery
The services promised in IEP Section 7 become the tracking, with no separate log to keep. What was promised and what was provided, side by side.
Reducing administrative burden is not a convenience — it is a clinical imperative.
